Core Web Vitals explained for business owners
2026-10-28 · 6 min read
Core Web Vitals are Google’s field metrics for how a page feels: Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) is how quickly the main content appears; Interaction to Next Paint (INP) is how snappy clicks and taps feel; Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) is how much the page jumps while loading.
You do not need to memorise the thresholds. You do need a partner who baselines them before a rebuild and proves the after.
What “good” looks like
Aim for LCP under 2.5s (we target under 2.0s), INP under 200ms, CLS under 0.1 (we target under 0.05). Lab Lighthouse scores are useful for engineering; field data is what search and users actually feel.
